Since February 2025 a GPhC-registered online pharmacy cannot prescribe a weight-management medicine from a questionnaire alone. If a site you are using skips a two-way consultation and BMI verification, it is not following the regulator's guidance.

The General Pharmaceutical Council, the pharmacy regulator for England, Scotland and Wales, updated its guidance for registered pharmacies providing services at a distance. Weight-management medicines are now classed as needing additional safeguards: the prescriber cannot rely on an online questionnaire alone, must independently verify weight, height and BMI (by video or in-person consultation, clinical records, or contact with the GP or usual prescriber), and there must be timely two-way communication. Superintendent Pharmacists are now jointly responsible with pharmacy owners for meeting the guidance, and incentives to prescribers are barred.
